OpenAI's latest ChatGPT Ads product update is mostly plumbing: conversion optimization for product feed campaigns, better tracking, two new markets. For travel advertisers the formats are still ecommerce-shaped, but one item arrives with a date on it whether you act or not.
Conversion optimization
Conversion-optimized cost-per-click campaigns, oCPC, are now in beta for product feed campaigns. The first release covers click-billed campaigns using fixed or manual bidding with a positive conversion bid cap.
You can clone an existing CPC campaign into a new oCPC campaign, or create them in bulk. When cloning, Ads Manager prefills the conversion event if only one is eligible and prompts you to pick otherwise.
Tracking and measurement
- Dynamic URL parameters. Supported macros including
{campaign_id},{ad_group_id},{ad_id}and{ad_account_id}can sit in landing page query parameters, populated at delivery time. - Triple Whale. You can now connect ChatGPT Ads inside Triple Whale to measure it alongside other channels. Sonar Optimize is also available, for sending stronger conversion signals back to OpenAI.
- Hightouch. Now supports sending conversion events to ChatGPT Ads for measurement and optimization.
- Pixel validation diagnostics. Ads Manager now shows why events were dropped before sending, the affected field, the error type and a recommended fix. Tools, then Conversions, then the diagnostics panel on the right.
The one with a deadline
Automatic advanced matching is already the default for new web pixels. On 17 August 2026 OpenAI will enable it for existing web pixels too. It matches more conversions to ads using hashed customer information from your website forms.
If you would rather it stayed off, opt out before 17 August under Tools, Conversions, Data Source, then Edit pixel.
Worth an actual decision rather than a default. For most advertisers, hashed form data improving match rates is a straightforward trade. For anyone with a stricter consent posture, it is a conversation to have with legal. Either way, have it before the date.
Formats and markets
Multi-product carousels are in testing for product feed campaigns, showing several products from one advertiser in a single unit. ChatGPT Ads also launches in Brazil and Mexico in the coming week.
What this means if you sell travel
Product feeds and multi-product carousels are ecommerce formats. Nothing here is shaped like a booking path yet, so treat the campaign types as directional rather than urgent.
The measurement work is different. Clean pixels, conversion events that actually fire, and attribution you trust are what let you test a channel in week one instead of spending that week debugging it. Do that now and you are ready when the travel-shaped formats show up.
What to do this week
- Decide on advanced matching before 17 August. Enabling it is the right call for most advertisers. If your consent posture is stricter, opt out under Tools, Conversions, Data Source, Edit pixel, and document why.
- Open the pixel diagnostics panel. Tools, then Conversions. Fix any dropped events before you judge any campaign's performance, because a rejected conversion event makes a working campaign look broken.
- Confirm your conversion events actually fire, end to end, on the paths that matter to you. This is the prerequisite for everything else on this list.
- Wire up attribution. If you already run Triple Whale or Hightouch, connect ChatGPT Ads now so you have history built up before you need to defend the channel.
- Add campaign macros to your landing page URLs. Cheap to implement, and it makes your reporting readable later.
- Leave oCPC alone unless you run product feeds. Note the beta and revisit when the formats fit a booking path.
